My groom (Dairick) and I both think that music is a very important element for our wedding. The music sets the mood and it can make or break the feel of the wedding.
Of all the details that we've thought up and compromised on, music is the one thing that brings out the most disagreements! Our music preferences are so different and neither one of us is afraid to speak our opinions about what we like and don't like, and it's making it very difficult to come up with songs for some of the important parts of the wedding.
Our Music Preferences:
Dairick's favorite band: Alice in Chains
My favorite band: Sum 41
Dairick also likes: I Wrestled a Bear Once, Mest, & Deftones.
I also like: Pink, Flyleaf, & Fergie/Black Eyed Peas
(Can you see where the difficulties come in?)
Dairick would like some of his music played at the wedding (which I totally want! but I just don't think I Wrestled a Bear Once is wedding appropriate!) So I promised that towards the end of the reception (when most of the older crown has gone home) he can play one "mosh pit" type song! But this doesn't mean that some of his music wont be played at our wedding!
We have decided to have 2 "our songs" played during our reception as one of our many compromises. The first song will be our first dance song and my "our song" (Sum 41 With Me) and the second song will be our bridal party dance song and Dairick's "our song" (Mest Electric guitar Electric girl). The rest of the important songs for the ceremony/reception still are up in the air... Hopefully our readers can help with this!
We kind of want to stray away from the "played out" songs...
Prelude Music: Played while guests arrive for the ceremony.
Something acoustic would work well here I think... just not sure what music in particular.
Processional Music: Played during the time the family and wedding party walk down the aisle.
This is also the time when the bride walks down the aisle but I have a song that I want to walk down the aisle to that would be best played start to finish when I start to walk down the aisle. (Myley Cyrus When I look at You). So I need to figure out what the bridal party and mom's will walk down the aisle to.
Interlude Music: Songs played during the ceremony.
We would like something as a tribute to all of our grandparents who have passed away played during the ceremony (Thought about playing something like Alice in Chains Heaven Besides You for this portion, but not 100% sure about it) and we'll probably have some kind of music played during the Unity Candle portion of the ceremony, but have no idea of what to play...
Recessional Song: Music played as the new husband and wife walk up the aisle together.
No idea of what to play here, we both know that we don't want anything that is a typical song for this portion of the ceremony.
Walk into the Reception Song: Bridal party and the bride/groom are announced at the reception.
I want a fun song that says "get this party started" but not too "pop music-ish" Something with a good beat and good lyrics, somthing that is going to make people go wild when we walk into the reception for the first time as Mr. and Mrs. D Best! My thought was to use Black Eyed Peas Tonights Going to Be a Good Night but I don't know if it's already played out or not... What do you think?
Father Daughter Dance Song: (Do I really need an explanation?)
Here's a twist for ya! I have 2 wonderful dad's (My biological dad and my step dad) who mean the world to me, and I feel like it wouldn't be fair for one or the other to walk me down the aisle so I want both of them to give me away! In this case I feel as though I need two father daughter dances as a tribute to each of them! The other twist... since Dairick and I have two daughters I thought I could share my father daughter dances with Dairick and the girls! Dairick would dance with our oldest daughter (Kyley) while I dance with my Dad and Dairick will dance with our youngest daughter (Natally) while I dance with my Step Dad. So I need two father daughter dance songs! Kind of unconventional I know but it's our wedding damn it! ;)
Cutting the Cake Song:
Maybe something like Adam Sandler I want to grow old with you but I'll take other suggestions! Again, nothing typical!
Garter Take off/ Toss Song:
Dairick keeps saying he wants something like Def Leppard Pour Some Sugar On Me, or My Darkest Days Porn Star Dancing, but it's not his personality... so I'm sure some more suggestions would help him with his decision!
Last Dance Song:
I'm not really worried about this song... I'm sure the DJ will come up with something good! I'm pretty sure anyone who's left to hear the last song will either be too wasted to care or so tired that they're almost sleeping in a chair somewhere! But if you have any suggestions I'll take them!
the BEST wedding
I wanted to create a blog about our wedding planning process in order for our friends and family to be involved through out the whole process... If this blog helps other brides get ideas then I did something good for someone else at the same time!

Wedding Planning Status
Ok everyone, we've booked the the date, the ceremony/reception venue and the DJ, we've found friends and friends of friends who can help us with aspects such as the cake and invitations... Now we're combining all of our ideas and hoping they all come together to make our dream wedding! That's where you come in!
Here are the ideas that we have so far and whether or not we've found someone to help us with, we're doing it ourselves or we have no idea what to do...
My Dress: Found it at David's Bridal for $499... Found the same dress online for $175! I'm skeptical about ordering my dress online though... Any ideas or suggestions?
Dairick's Tux: Usually free with so many other tux rentals. The style of tux and color of vest is still in question.
Kyley and Natally's Junior Bridesmaid dresses: Considered finding these online, but everything is still overpriced for our budget... Wondering if one of our sewing savey mom's could make them for cheaper! Style and color is still in question.
Bridal Party Attire: The colors for our wedding are Green, Blue, and Turquoise (Hints of coppery, gold aspects as well) I want the bridal party to look like they all got dresses up to go to a masquerade not a wedding, so I'm letting my bridesmaids pick out their own [elegant] dresses and I've assigned them a color range to stay within. My maid of honor will be wearing Green (my favorite color) and my other 2 bridesmaids will be one in a blue dress and the other in turquoise. Groomsmen vests will match the bridesmaid they will be walking with.
Garter (Keep and Throw): I haven't found any visuals of garters that I like... Everything seems to have frilly lace, bows, hearts, or just way too much girls stuff on it... I want something that says me! (Simple, green, blue...) Wondering if one of our sewing savey mom's might be able to make this for me as well.
Bridal Party Bouquets: Instead of having flowers as decorations we've decided to use peacock feathers! Since a floral bouquet would seem out of place with no other flowers I will be walking down the aisle holding a peacock feathered mask! Bridesmaids will be carrying them as well, and groomsmen will also be wearing masks.
Throwing Bouquet: Since I wont be carrying flowers down the aisle, why should I through them for the bouquet toss? Instead I was thinking of using a feather duster and adding some sparkle to the handle! Still looking for a tasteful looking feather duster.
Boutonnieres: Again no flowers. I'm thinking pocket squares would look more elegant... I have found some really cool looking peacock feather boutonnieres but I feel like it would be overkill on the peacock feathers and it would be a pain in the ass to make them.
Cake: We've known all along how expensive tiered wedding cakes can cost (Outrageous!) And we could never find any inspiration that we liked for a tiered wedding cake. One day we stumbled across a pull apart cupcake cake that depicted Van Gogh's Starry Night on it with a picture frame around it! Perfect! Mine and Dairick's favorite artist is Van Gogh and we have a painting of Starry Night so it fits! We will have extra cupcakes scattered around it to accommodate all the guests. Now to find someone to take on the task of making it!
Centerpieces: I've collected 13 cases of green wine bottles (FREE!) in assorted shapes, sizes, and color. They'll be placed around a tall pillar candle holder and have tall peacock feathers in them.
Table Numbers and Place Card Holders: Dairick and I have a love for movies so we thought, instead of numbering the tables that we would name the tables after some of our favorite movies! Holders for the Table Names are still in question. By special request from my dad, tables will be randomly chosen by the DJ to go up to the buffet. Place Card holders are being made out of wine corks that I collected (FREE!). Guests will be assigned tables but not seats... Cards to be used for these are still in question.
Invitations: This is where I want to tie in the Van Gogh Starry Night and Peacock Feathers. I found a picture of invitations that we love on etsy.com. They're long, skinny gold paper with peacock feathers painted on the top right and bottom left corners. The way they're painted reminds us of Van Gogh's style. The text and wording on the invitation are perfect as well!
Unity Candle: We're still playing around with ideas for making our own Unity Candle. We have a friend who makes candles and has offered to make the pillar candle portion for us! We don't want a traditional Unity Candle so green and turquoise colors may be involved. We have some beautiful cut glass taper candle holders that I've thought about using which leaves the pillar candle holder. I'm playing with the idea of using one of the pillar candle holders from the centerpieces for this.
I think that's about it for now.... If I think of anything else I will post it! Feel free to input your ideas on anything! The more opinions we have the better!
